What is the role of an experienced Engineering Surveyor?
Surveyors are more involved in the success of a project than ever before in the history of the construction industry. They are connected directly to designers, engineers, supervisors, construction managers, work crews and safety personnel. Experienced Surveyors understand the importance of operating with all the above, concurrently and seamlessly, to ensure a viable cooperative on any project, regardless of the construction type or the proprietary management system. The more complex the project, the more effect experience has on guaranteeing positive results for the client, and this truth is magnified significantly for the work scope of Engineering Surveyors.
Different ways in which Engineering Surveyors are commonly engaged.
Engineering Surveyors at Geocific West Engineering Surveys Pty. Ltd.(GWES) may be engaged by clients in various different arrangements. Apart from simply being contracted for services by a principal construction contractor/sub-contractor performing project works, Surveyors are commonly engaged to audit fellow Surveyors, supervise external Survey Teams, manage external survey data and to supplement staff shortages for external Surveying Companies, whether it be in the short term or the long term.
Experienced GWES Surveyors may be engaged to perform services for external Surveying companies that require support in only one particular facet of a project, for example, Control Network Surveys or Photogrammetry Surveys.
Experienced GWES Surveyors may be engaged temporarily to assist in training the Surveying staff of external Surveying companies in many varying fields of expertise.
Also, in line with a new approach by multiple construction companies, experienced GWES Surveyors may be tasked with the training of staff within a construction company's workforce, in the basics of utilizing surveying equipment and proven surveying methodologies to supplement the construction company's needs for lower cost surveying solutions (given no legislative or insurance barriers). This is an exceedingly successful approach to optimizing output while lowering overall Surveying expenditure.
Surveying companies, including the tasks they are required to perform, are forever evolving. Surveying is an industry that requires an intricate knowledge of what worked well in the past to ensure success in an evolving future. It is not an industry that succeeds by relying on knowledge of only theory, but sets foundations of acquired skills that are built over many years and many projects. We expect our clients to demand more from our industry as we move into the future, and only experience will allow Surveyors to best navigate their clients need for ever increasing efficiency in connection with their deliverables.
